In the months and years following the tragic events of September 11th , the attorneys of Glynn and Mercep, LLP, led Long Island's legal response, volunteering pro bono assistance to families who lost loved ones on that fateful day.
Lawrence E. Kelly, a partner at Glynn and Mercep, prepared and argued one of the first high-income cases before Federal Special Master Kenneth Feinberg, and on behalf of that family, won the highest award granted in any of the lead cases by the Victims' Compensation Fund. This case established valuations for hundreds of cases to follow, including those this law firm continues to prepare and present.
Under the aegis of “Trial Lawyers Care”, a national organization of attorneys who volunteer their time in the aid of worthy causes, Mr. Kelly lectures on the subtleties of the Victims' Fund to attorneys at venues from Boston to Manhattan and Long Island. These lectures assist hundreds of victims' families in attaining the full measure of compensation available through the Fund.
Utilizing this hard-earned knowledge of Victims' benefits and services available through September 11 th organizations, the attorneys of Glynn and Mercep are able to provide further pro bono assistance to gravely wounded and amputee Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom. That volunteer assistance takes the form of aiding these Veterans in applications for governmental benefits and charitable funding. Mr. Kelly is also involved in the struggle to change Federal statutes to supplement the benefits currently available to these heroes.
Glynn and Mercep intends to maintain and expand on this commitment to these and other pro bono efforts, and in so doing, engender positive and meaningful change.
